False Ceiling (POP, Gypsum & PVC) in Mumbai
Hide the services. Light the room properly.
A false ceiling is doing three jobs at once: hiding wiring, ducting, and the AC's indoor unit; giving lighting somewhere to sit other than a single tube in the middle of the room; and covering a slab that was never finished to be looked at. Done well, nobody notices it — which is the point.
We build in gypsum board on GI framework, in POP where the design calls for curves and mouldings, and in PVC panels for bathrooms, balconies, and utility areas where damp would eventually destroy gypsum. Cove details, spotlight cut-outs, AC grille positions, and profile lighting are all set out on a reflected ceiling plan before a single channel goes up, because moving a light after the boarding is closed means opening it again.
Benefits
Why choose false ceiling?
Lighting that finally works
Cove, profile, and spot lighting designed into the ceiling instead of hung off it.
Services disappear
Wiring, ducting, and AC pipework are boxed in cleanly rather than chased across the slab.
Rooms cool faster
A lower ceiling volume with an insulating air gap means the AC has less air to work on.
Quieter rooms
Board and air gap take the hard echo out of tiled rooms and open-plan floors.
PVC where damp lives
Bathrooms, balconies, and utility areas get panels that will not soften or stain.

FAQs
False Ceiling — common questions
Gypsum board for flat ceilings: it is factory-made, dimensionally stable, and cracks far less at the joints. POP for curves, mouldings, and detailed profiles that board cannot make. Most jobs we do are gypsum with POP only where the design needs it — the all-POP ceiling is a habit from before board was widely available.
Typically 4 to 6 inches for a plain ceiling, more where a duct or a cove has to be boxed. In a flat with a 9-foot slab that is comfortable; below that we plan a partial or peripheral ceiling so the middle of the room keeps its height.
Hairline cracks at joints come from movement, poor jointing tape, or a framework at the wrong centres. Done to specification — GI framework at proper spacing, jointing compound and tape at every seam — a gypsum ceiling stays sound for years. A ceiling that has cracked once will usually crack again at the same line unless the framework is fixed.
The ceiling will stain and the board will soften, and no false ceiling can fix a leak from the flat upstairs. If there is any history of seepage, we say so, and we deal with the leak before boarding rather than covering it — a ceiling installed over a live leak has to come down again.
Lights can, with a fresh cut-out and some making good. Anything that moves the duct or the AC drain means opening a section of ceiling. It is why we finalise the reflected ceiling plan with your electrician and AC vendor before we start, not during.
